Shrove Tuesday proved popular amongst royalty, as Kate Middleton emerged a dab hand at pancake-tossing - just another jewel to her future crown. Kate wowed onlookers with her culinary skills as well as fiancé Prince William, whom she was with for a royal visit to Belfast. The visit came as part of the couple’s UK tour in the run up to the wedding on April 29.
Avid followers of Kate’s fashion will have seen the Princess-to-be step out in a Burberry trench coat with skirt detailing, and black heels. This ensemble comes in complete contrast to Kate’s previous attire for Royal engagements which have generally been safer and quite modest. By opting for high fashion, Kate is tackling some of the more critical assessments from fashionistas, who have publicly said she should follow a more modern, edgier style. By choosing the Burberry garment, she is reclaiming her fashion throne and making a statement that she will continue to stun us with her fashion-savvy wardrobe.
The Royal couple arrived at Belfast’s George Best City Airport in Sydenham and were met by the Lord Mayor, Pat Convery. Crowds gathered in the grounds of City Hall to get a glimpse of William and Kate. A tight security operation was running to ensure the smooth running of the couple’s visit. There were heavily-armed police on foot diverting traffic and patrolling the streets in marked cars, and even litter bins were checked with steel rods for potential explosive bombs.
Whilst at City Hall, the couple received a framed photograph and book of the building’s history. Crowds warmly greeted the Royals, cheering and waving flags. Aside of her pancake-tossing skills, Kate proved a hit with the crowd kissing babies, talking to the elderly and sharing a joke with youngsters. The People’s Princess mark two?
