There is high speculation surrounding who will be announced as the designer for Kate Middleton’s wedding dress and now there is a new name to add to the list of contenders - the Alexander McQueen fashion label.
Adding to the rumoured names which, at the moment, holds Victoria Beckham as the most likely bet, the label of the late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been strongly recommended to Kate. The recommendation was made by the editor of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman and if the rumour becomes reality it will be the work of 36 year-old designer Sarah Burton who is creative director at Alexander McQueen.
It has become apparent in recent months that Buckingham Palace has been seeking names of potential designers from the nation’s leading stylists and editors. The Palace hopes to find the best possible designer for job seeing as the commissioned work will become one of the most talked about dresses of the year, if not the decade. Sources within the world of fashion said: “She [Miss Shulman] was asked for her first choice and that choice was McQueen," one said. Miss Shulman, the 52 year-old who has been editor at British Vogue since 1992, is regarded as an expert in the business and a commission made with her full support would be one of great promise. Miss Shulman was awarded an OBE in 2004.
The late Alexander McQueen died last year at the age of 40 after committing suicide at his London home. Since McQueen’s abrupt death, the label’s creative director and rumoured dress designer Sarah Burton has led the fashion house out of its moment of darkness. Apart from the latest addition Sarah Burton, and early front-runner Victoria Beckham, other potential designers include British designer to the stars, Phillipa Lepley and the woman behind Kate’s beautiful engagement dress – Brazilian Issa designer Daniella Helayel.
Despite heavy speculation, no decisions have been made regarding Kate’s wedding dress. But with a wedding day fast approaching, a public announcement will undoubtedly be made soon.
